Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, this home is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and there is a Texas Historical Marker here with a little bit of background:

Built 1858 as story and a half home by early doctor, A.S. Johnson. Remodeled 1907.

Occupied in 1916 by Dr. L.P. McCuistion (1869-1947), 57 years a physician, who founded the Sanitarium of Paris in 1914 and led in development of Paris as a hospital center.

The home is also part of the Church Street Historic District, and the Texas Historical Commission has the District's narrative on file, referencing the home (see Secondary Website 1). They mention that only parts of the original home remain from the period between 1844 and 1864. The home is cited as a good example of a later remodel with Classical Revival features, and it may be the oldest home still standing in Paris. Finally, they provide the home's individual entry:

Site No. 2. Johnson-McCuistion House. 730 Clarksville. Unknown. 1858, 1907, 1950, 1968. Classical Revival. Two story frame structure; pyramidal roof with dormer in main block; giant order portico supported by paired fluted Corinthian columns; one-story porch below; threebay entrance-tripartite windows and door below, single windows and tripartite doorway above; T-shaped one-story wings at each side. Significance: Nucleus of present structure built in 1858 by Dr. and Mrs. Alfred S. Johnson; in 1907, cotton merchant T.A. Johnson, grandson of first owners, remodeled house to its present form; as grandest surviving Classical Revival residence in Paris, Johnson House typifies overscaled, Edwardian residence; acquired by Dr. and Mrs. L.P. McCuistion after their home burned in 1916 fire; T-shaped wings added by funeral home are low in scale and do not affect integrity of Johnson House.
