Sumec velký (Silurus glanis; Linné, 1758) z celedi sumcovitých je vedle jeseterovitých ryb nejvetší sladkovodní rybou v Evrope. Sumec je sportovními rybári velice vyhledávanou, byt obtížne ulovitelnou rybou, u které je nejmenší lovná míra stanovena zákonem. Je to nocní dravec.
