This historical concrete “crib” has gone from a shipping dock to diving platform. Built in 1919 by Harvey and William Whitney, its purpose was to provide a foundation for a sand and gravel dock. After only 3 years it was declared hazardous for barges to unload in Lake Superior’s temperamental waves. Nicknamed Uncle Harvey’s Mausoleum, it is now a popular place for daring divers to enjoy a cool splash on a hot summer day.
