Jones W. Jones was born a slave, he escaped to Elmira where he became a conductor on the underground railroad. This is his house which will become a museum.

The financing to create a museum is in progress. Jone Jones is credited with saving 800 persons. He also was employed at the nearby national cemetery burying Confederate soldiers who died at the prison camp in Elmira. John W. Jones is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
