This lock, one of fifteen disused locks on the River Gipping, and was 'modernised' in 1991. Unfortunately the original capping stones were removed and replaced with modern bricks. According to the Environment Agency this is spelt Sharmford Lock, although most internet resources refer to Shamford Lock
