"The municipal building is a 2 1/2-story brick building with a cut stone foundation and full basement built in 1887 as the Union Free School and Academy. A 2-story, 45-foot rear wing was completed in 1904, and the building was altered for its current use in 1931. "
"The facility houses the village's government, post office and a variety of non-profit organizations including Berkshire's emergency squad, the Newark Valley Historical Society and the boy scouts. "
"Newark Valley Union Free School was the result of the generosity of Royal W. Clinton. On February 14, 1887, Clinton proposed to the village that if they would unite school districts and secure a site, he would have a school house built "suited to the necessities of the village". The result was the formation of Union free school district No. 2,"
