Asahel Clark was rafting logs from downstream on the Connecticut River towards South Hadley, MA. He accidentally drowned when he fell in the water at the falls on the Connecticut River. His brownstone grave marker uses the archaic long form of "s" in his name, contains an early version of a winged cherub which is unique to the cemetery, and has the inscription:

In Memory of Mr.

who was drowned
April 26. 1798
in the 31st year
of his age.
