Arriving in Phoenix, Arizona in 1882, George H.N.Luhrs purchased a commercial block in central Phoenix and operated the city stables and corral. As Phoenix boomed he developed a hotel, post office and commercial buildings on the site. The Luhrs Building was built in 1924 to fill the need for office space as the city developed after World War One. At ten floors it remained the tallest structure in the city until it was superseded by the Hotel Westward Ho. The Luhrs building remains a significant architectural structure in central Phoenix and is once again offering office and retail space.
