This plaque is dedicated to Manigault’s Brigade, commanded by Brig. Gen. Arthur M. Manigault in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 20, 1863 at 3:30 pm. This is one of four monuments to Manigault’s Brigade on the battlefield.
To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Snodgrass Hill, head west pass the monuments on the hilltop. A trail will continue to the west near the 87th Indiana and the 2nd Minnesota monuments. Follow this path until you reach a clearing. A path will lead to the west (straight) near the 78th Illinois and the 121st Ohio monuments. Follow this path to the monument.

At 3 o’clock the brigade arrived at Vittetoe’s and formed on the left of Johnson’s brigade of Bushrod R. Johnson’s division with Deas brigade on its left. It took part in the assault on Snodgrass Hill its right reaching the crest of the spur east of the Vittetoe house and its center advancing through the ravine near the house leading up to the Ridge. The right maintained its position on the hill upon the left of Johnson’s brigade until the enemy retired. Strength in action 2315 officers and men. Casualties killed 67 wounded 434 missing 46 total 547 percentage of loss 23.63.

Approximately 700 metal position and descriptive markers with raised lettering. Union marker text painted blue; Confederate marker text painted red.

Most of these tablets and plaques have integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmenship, feeling, and association to the historically significant period of Commemorative/Park Developement (1895-1899).
