The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is the second most visited wildlife refuge in America and recently voted as the
Best National Wildlife Refuge by USA Today. It was one of the first refuges set up specifically for big game. It houses bison, elk, and Texas longhorns along with numerous other smaller animals and fowl. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge was set up in 1905 and the original entrance passed through this archway. State Hwy 49 runs through the refuge and caused the entrance to move to the north. This can still be seen from the road, but only if you happen to be looking in that direction.
Turn south just before going into the refuge to get to the arch.
