The existing City Hall had grown too small and outdated, so the existing building was renovated and new extensions were built that surrounded and engulfed the old one. The 1938 Municipal Building cost $230,000, and was built of limestone, granite, brick, tile, and shellstone, the latter brought from Corpus Christi. It was designed by the architectural firm of Page and Southerland in the Art Moderne style.

The new structure consisted of four floors in a C-shape, with a courtyard to the east.

This building was replaced by a new city hall in 2004. This building still houses some city offices.
Project type: Government building (non-park)

Date built or created: 1938 completed

Location: Austin, Texas City Hall

City: Austin

Condition: Good upkeep with a little wear and tear
