The HSBC Building was designed by Sir Norman Foster and completed in 1985. The building respects the principles of Feng Shui and is one of the most notable landmark of Hong Kong's, although it is "only" 178 m high. Inside the building, natural sunlight reflected by large mirrors is used as the main light source.

Sir Norman Foster, born in 1935, has won several major architecture prizes, including:
1983 RIBA Royal Gold Medal
1994 AIA Gold Medal
1999 Pritzker Prize
