La taxe d'octroi, perçue à Niort dès 1718, est un impôt direct prélevé sur les denrées et les marchandises entrant et sortant de la ville ou des faubourgs par terre ou par eau. Cet impôt permet de financer l'entretien de la voirie et la construction de bâtiments officiels. Le périmètre de l'octroi est délimité extra-muros par 51 bornes et intra-muros par 23 barrières, gardées par un poste de surveillance ou un bureau d’octroi. L'octroi de Niort est supprimé en 1926 et remplacé par la taxe foncière et d'habitation.
Les locaux abritent maintenant les services municipaux de la ville de Niort.
The granting tax levied in Niort from 1718, is a direct tax levied on commodities and goods into and out of the city or the suburbs by land or water. This tax helps to fund road maintenance and construction of official buildings. The scope of the grant is bounded by 51 extramural and intramural terminals by 23 gates, guarded by a monitoring station or a granting office. The granting of Niort in 1926 is deleted and replaced with the property tax and housing.
The premises now house the municipal services of the city of Niort.
