Located 80 miles north-east from Quebec city, Trois-Pistoles saw the birth of a legend, the Black Horse. Legend in which we attend to the construction of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges church from 1882 to 1887.
No one knew where that horse came from but, all they knew was that he was very strong. That's why he was used to carry the stones needed to build the church. The priest always asked himself one question: Why did that horse never transpired after working so hard?. In fact that horse was the devil and its bridle was never to be taken off him. Not listening to that warning someone finally took it off and the horse disappeared never to be seen again, leaving the church only one stone short of being finished.
In 2006, the town of Trois-Pistoles decided to pay tribute to this legend which represents one facet of the town identity by installing a sculpture of a black horse on the grounds of the famous church. It was inaugurated on November 29th, 2006 at the cost of $19,380.
With this sculpture, Trois-Pistoles was awarded the Prix Aménagement 2008 at the 21st Colloque Les Arts et la Ville.
