This building was built in 1938 and designed by Chicago architect Albert C. Fehlow, who did a number of Salvation Army buildings around the Midwest, all in Art Deco style.

In 2014 DTE Energy restored the building led by the Architecture firm Hamilton Anderson Associates and general contractor L.S. Brinker.

That rehab brought the building up to current codes while preserving historic elements like the lobby's historic features and the bathrooms' terrazzo tiles and marble walls.
