Calling itself Canada's Alpine Village, Sun Peaks is a ski-in, ski-out resort where you can ski right from your hotel door down the main street to two of the eleven lifts that whisk you up the mountain.
Receiving an average of 5.6 metres (220 inches) of snow a year and having a vertical rise of 880 metres (2,890 feet), Sun Peaks is an alpine skiers destination.
But there are more that the 122 downhill runs on the three mountains the resort uses. In addition there is cross-country skiing with over 34 kilometers of trails, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, and tubing. This gives the resort community an overall winter experience.
Getting here can be a bit of challenge if you don't have a car, but you can fly (60 km) or take the train (50 km) to Kamloops and rent from there. Or you can take a shuttle up from the airport. But once at Sun Peaks you can ski or walk everywhere to get to a ski slope.
The village has many restaurants catering to a wide range of taste buds and budgets.
During the summer there is alpine hiking available from one of the chairlifts as well as downhill mountain biking. And following McGillvray Creek is an 18-hole golf course.
