The City:
Weil am Rhein is a municipality in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg with about 30,000 inhabitants. It is located directly at the border triangle where Germany, France and Switzerland meet.
The town consists of several neighborhoods that were originally independent municipalities before they merged into one city. Weil was first mentioned in the year 786, the district Haltingen even 767. In the Middle Ages, Weil belonged to the monastery of St. Gallen, other districts to the Bishop of Basel. In the 1360s most areas came to the margraviate Hachberg-Sausenberg 1503 to the margraviate of Baden. Weil was promoted to city in 1929. With the incorporation of Ötlingen, Haltingen and Märkt the city received its current area until 1975.
Weil is an important transport hub on the country border, with motorway links, a large freight station on one of the busiest railway lines in the country and a large cargo port on the Rhine.
The Town Hall:
The town hall is a three-storey building in the style of the 1960s. It was inaugurated in 1964 and was supposed to represent the beginning of a new city center that arose between the original districts.
The freestanding triangular clock tower next to the main entrance is symbolizing the city's location at the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland.

Weil am Rhein ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg mit etwa 30.000 Einwohnern. Sie befindet sich unmittelbar am Dreiländereck, wo Deutschland, Frankreich und die Schweiz zusammenstossen.
Die Stadt besteht aus mehreren Stadtteilen, die ursprünglich unabhängige Gemeinden waren, bevor sie zu einer Stadt verschmolzen. Weil wurde im Jahr 786 erstmals ursprünglich erwähnt, der Stadtteil Haltingen sogar schon 767. Im Mittelalter gehörte Weil dem Kloster St. Gallen, andere Ortsteile dem Bischof von Basel. In den 1360er Jahren kamen die meisten Gebiete an die Markgrafschaft Hachberg-Sausenberg und 1503 an die Markgrafschaft Baden. 1929 wurde Weil zur Stadt erhoben. Mit der Eingemeindung von Ötlingen, Haltingen und Märkt erhielt die Stadt bis 1975 seine heutige Ausdehnung.
Weil ist ein wichtiger Verkehrsknotenpunkt an der Landesgrenze, mit Autobahnverbindungen, einem grossen Güterbahnhof an einer der meistbefahrenen Bahnlinien des Landes und einem grossen Frachthafen am Rhein.
Das Rathaus:
Das Rathaus ist ein dreistöckiges Gebäude im Stil der 1960er Jahre. Es wurde 1964 eingeweiht und sollte den Beginn einer neuen Stadtmitte repräsentieren, die zwischen den ursprünglichen Ortsteilen entstand.
Der freistehende dreieckige Uhrturm neben dem Haupteingang symbolisiert die Lage der Stadt im Dreiländereck von Deutschland, Frankreich und der Schweiz.
