This dedicated bench is located along Main Street and one of many dedicated benches within City Plaza. There's a small plaque on the bench that reads:

JULIA AND JOE SILVA
LOVE AND HAPPINESS

Julia Silva, 94, a lifelong Chico resident passed away at her home on June 23, 2008. Julia was born Oct. 8, 1913 in Chico to Julio and Joaqunia Morgado. Julia was married on February 25, 1933 to Joseph Silva for 60 years.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, UPC, the Portuguese Holy Ghost and Fatima Club, I.D.E.S, the Eagles and was president of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Annie K. Bidwell Parlor.

She is preceded in death, by her husband, Joe in 1993; son, Daniel Silva in 1986; daughter, Gloria Anderson in Feb. 2008, and two grandchildren, Julie Ann Rogers in 1967 and John Phillip Silva in 1965.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Silva, III, of Chico, Alvy Silva, of Proberta, Rick Silva, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Steven Silva, of Chico; daughters, Dolores Rogers of Chico and Irene Laverty of San Diego; 23 grandchildren, 29 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Bruise Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. There is a viewing at Brusie Funeral Home, Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. There will be a funeral mass at St. John's the Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday with burial at Chico Cemetery.
