L'église Saint-Vivien de Pons fut construite en style roman au xiie siècle et remaniée au xve siècle.
Elle est placée en bas du village le long de la Seugne et en direction de l'Hôpital des pèlerins.
Elle fait l'objet d'un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 23 février 1912.
Fondé par Geoffroy III seigneur de Pons "dans le but de recevoir et de réconforter les pauvres", cet hospice venait de relayer une aumônerie et la léproserie voisine de Chansac. Le bâtiment étant établi hors des remparts, les pèlerins en route vers Saint Jacques de Compostelle pouvaient y faire halte et y trouver refuge et subsistance de jour comme de nuit. Cette situation hors les murs, avec passage sous voûte entre église et hôpital, permettait d’associer les soins de l’âme et du corps.
