There are three ways to get up the 885 meter Stawamus Chief. One, climb the 700 meter rock face that is close to vertical. Two, hike the 550 meter elevation gain on a trail. Or three, take the Sea to Sky Gondola service that opened in 2014.

Rising from the Sea to Sky Highway to the top of Stawamus Chief, one of the largest granite monoliths in the world, the Sea to Sky Gondola service provides access to the 885 meter level. The only other two options are scaling the 700 metre massive granite cliffs of the Stawamus Chief or hiking up the backside of the monolith.

The Doppelmayr-built cabins have room for eight people in each gondola, the ride can carry 600 people per hour. From the lower base station it only take ten minutes to make it to the top. And there is a restaurant to serve the public.
