The box has a colorful depiction of Steve McQueen on one of the two short sides, from his head down to his waist, with his hands together. The two long sides show McQueen from the same image, but in a closeup, while the remaining short side is plain orange, the background color on all four sides. The top of the box is stainless steel, with no pattern. The City of North Richland Hills website provides some background (edited): (visit link)

"The Signal Art Program was implemented in 2007 to enhance the City’s Art in Public Spaces Program. The program works with local artists to design original artwork for traffic signal boxes located throughout the City.

The newest exhibit, entitled 'Hollywood Film Cowboys', was installed in the Fall of 2013 on 10 signal boxes. The theme of classic film cowboys will provide continuity of artwork and entice our residents and visitors to discover western icons of the past as they make their way through the city. The colorful images include variations on the Hollywood portrayal of the hero cowboy from John Wayne to Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman and Yul Brynner. The 'Hollywood Film Cowboy' artist is Cultural Arts Coordinator, Sarah Green. So be on the look out, you never know what you might see at the next NRH intersection.

Artist Statement: Everyone loves a Hollywood cowboy. The western hero of film defines what is right and good in the world. Protector and defender, he goes face to face with the bad guy and always wins. Film cowboys have become symbols to each of us, as individuals, of the good that is within ourselves. They stand as reminders of the hero we could be. The remarkable actors in this collection of portraits constitute many variations on the same tried and true Hollywood theme: A loner standing on the outside of traditional society, unaccepted and misunderstood, achieves approval and admiration by saving innocent people from a bad man. These portraits constitute many variations on the Hollywood myth of the tall, quiet stranger. Ranging from the archetypical and all-American John Wayne to the exotic, Hungarian-accented Yul Brynner, each actor brought his own unique take to the western hero. It’s fun to compare and contrast every version.

About Sarah Green: Sarah Green was born in London, England. She currently resides in Texas and received her B.A. in Vocal Performance from Texas Wesleyan University. Trained in figurative drawing by her late father, Christopher Hill, Sarah studied intaglio etching, lithography and screen printing with the noted artist and printmaker, Dale Conner. Conner thoroughly immersed his students in art history, as well as in traditional art and printmaking techniques. Sarah also studied photography with the late Texas Distiguished Artist, Peter Helms Feresten. Under Feresten's extraordinary guidance, Sarah learned traditional photographic and design procedures, including using varied photographic equipment, ranging from shoebox pinhole techniques to antique 8 x 10 plate cameras to $1.00 plastic Diana range finders. Sarah apprenticed with acclaimed painter Nancy Lamb, working with her on ceramic tile pieces and with Prismacolor pencils on large format works."
