This marker is facing Second Avenue and has been set into the northeast wall of 187 E Main Street in downtown Batesville, Ar. It appears to be made of Batesville "marble" a very fine quality limestone found in the area and used on many of the local buildings - including the Courthouse nearby. The text of the marker reads:

1836        1936
The first Arkansas Conference of
the Methodist Church met on
November 2, 1836
in a lodge hall on the upper floor
of the building that stood on this
corner at that time.

Thomas A Morris, Bishop
Wm P. Ratcliffe, Secretary
Burwell Lee, Presiding Elder
Andrew Hunter joined the conference.
