Although the foundation stone was laid in 1914 construction was delayed by the First World War & the church wasn't completed until 1917. A newspaper article (see website below) expressed surprise that upon completion services were only held on every 5th Sunday. Personally I find that perfectly understandable given the immense impact of the war.
The church celebrated its 100th year last year with a celebration mass & luncheon. Its oldest parishioner Lottie Dinsdale, who was present at the laying of the foundation stone, was to attend but died in June.
