Lake Wendouree is an artificial lake, created following the gold rush in Ballarat in 1851.
After the lake dried up in 2006, the City Council invested in a $7m scheme to supply it with over 850m litres of recycled and storm water annually.

In 2007 approximately 5000 people gathered for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk across what had been the 1956 Olympics rowing course.

By 2011 the lake had been refilled to full capacity.
