The former Club House Hotel gained notoriety as being the place where a fire started in 1897 that destroyed 23 buildings in Maitland Street, the main street.

The Club House Hotel was built in 1897 & rebuilt after the fire in 1898. The building is now a series of mixed businesses with a Bed & Breakfast on the first floor. It is in first class order & an attractive feature of the main street.
