The fire department originally formed in January 1942 as an Air Raid Patrol as part of the war effort. The department officially became the North Cedar Volunteer Fire Department in August 1948, but their first dedicated fire hall wasn't built until 1964. They operated out of that hall until January 2006, when they moved into their current location.

The hall has two apparatus bays that can hold four vehicles.
