Gold was discovered in the Eidsvold area as early as 1858 however a major find in 1887 saw a town develop virtually overnight. Over the life of the goldmine about 100,000 ounces were extracted.
The Centenary Gardens are on the southern approach to Eidsvold. The plaque is worded:

These gardens commemorate the centenary of the Eidsvold Goldfields 1887 - 1987 named by The Hon. Neville Harper M.L.A. Minister for Primary Industries and member for Auburn.
