The Mt Dandenong Arboretum was established in 1928 on 16 hectares. It is of national significance, and features conifers and deciduous trees. The Australian horticultural community donated most of the original plants.
There are many significant trees in the collection, including eight that are listed in the National Trust’s significant tree register.
Since there are other arboretums that focus on northern hemisphere conifers, since 1999 this arboretum now concentrates on southern hemisphere species.
