The North Oyster Volunteer Fire Department was incorporated on September 18, 1957. Fundraising began in 1959 for the construction of a fire hall, which was completed in 1967. The hall originally had only two apparatus bays, but a third bay was added to the left side of the building in 1980.

Station 1 is currently the fire department's only hall. Planning is underway to replace the aging fire hall and also build a satellite hall in the Coffin Point area.
