John Anderson was a Federal Member of Parliament for the National Party representing the electorate of Gwydir. He entered the House of Representatives on 15 April 1989 & retired prior to the 2007 election. He held Ministerial appointments of Minister for Primary Production and Energy, Minister for Transport and Regional Development & Deputy Prime Minister.

Mendooran is a small village on the alternate route between Dubbo & Coonabarabran.

The plaque is worded:

Mendooran Community Centre officially opened by the Honourable John Anderson Member for Gwydir on Tuesday 21st November 2006.

In acknowledgement of the contribution from Warrumbungle Shire Council, the Australian Department of Transport and Regional Services, GrainCorp, the Orana Area Consultative Committee and the Mendooran District Development Group Inc.
