The historic Sabine Pass Cemetery bears witness to more than its fair share of tragedy. From a mass grave of over 200 yellow fever victims, to the 85 people who drowned in the 1886 "overflow" (which we now call hurricanes), this headstone may be the saddest.
Two young men went out hunting together in 1855. They must have been caught by surprise when a fierce Texas "Blue Norther" struck, because they died of exposure within sight of safety and warmth.
The beautifully carved tombstone reads as follows:
