The memorial consists of the statue of a Union soldier where the long overcoat standing holding his rifle by its barrel. On the base the statue is the following inscription:

ERECTED BY THOMAS SHARP
POST NO. 2. G. A. R. OF
MILLVILLE, N. J., WITH THE
ASSISTANCE OF A GRATEFUL
PEOPLE, IN MEMORY OF THE
SOLDIERS, SAILORS, AND
MARINES WHO SERVED THEIR
COUNTRY IN THE CIVIL WAR
OF 1861 – 1865. MCMX.
