Text of Historic Marker:
CASE BUILDING
Built in 1877 in the brick commercial
craftsman style with segmental arched
windows and pressed tin lintel caps,
this building originally housed the Bogggs
Grocery Store. However, it was best remembered
as the home of the Menard Grocery, owned and
operated for decades by W.B. "Chubby" Menard.
For years it also hosted a barroom in the
basement. More Recently, it was known to
local residents as Clark's Army-Navy
Surplus. The building is still owned
by Chubby's descendants.
This building is in good condition and is currently occupied by a diner.
Date of Construction: 1877
2-story brick; recessed center door, facade supported on two circular iron posts, wooden canopy; segmentally arched windows, pressed tin lintel caps; parapet raised above brick dentil cornice; stuccoed storage building in the rear.
