The City Hall is a small building for a small city. The town water tower stands immediately to the rear, Vultures have been causing a nuisance by nesting in the Tower.
From Wikipedia:
"The area known as Lake Alfred was founded by snowbirds escaping the cold of Fargo, North Dakota. They at first named the settlement after their hometown, but the Post Office protested after a series of mix ups with the town of Largo. The town then became Chubb and later Bartow Junction because it lay at the junction of a road leading south into the county seat Bartow. Finally, in 1913 it took the name Lake Alfred after Alfred Parslow, an early settler. In 1917, the State of Florida established the first off-campus center for the University of Florida in Lake Alfred, the Citrus Experiment Station to study ways of improving citrus growing. Today this location is known as the UF/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center." text Source: (

Lake Alfred Water Tower, has been having a problem with Vultures nesting on the tower overnight. Below is one of many reports from local newspapers, on this long running problem.
"After a day of circling the skies, scanning the ground for the dead and dying, they make their way back home — an inhospitable home, to be sure, but home.
During the past couple years, it has been turned into a fake bird cemetery; it has reverberated with loud, scary noises; it has sent electric jolts through their bodies; and most recently, it has flashed blinding light into their eyes.
But still, black vultures settle down each evening on the Lake Alfred water tower." Text Source: (
