This memorial is located near the gliding field of Olten west of the town. It is a small place with a fountain, benches and the memorial stone.
The memorial stone contains a relief portrait of Max Cartier and a plaque with this text:
"Hauptmann Max Cartier
Erster Oltner Flugpionier.
Geboren in Olten am 29.5.1896. Abgestürzt in Thun am 24.1.1928 als Einflieger mit M8 Prototyp der KW Thun. Erwarb 1917 als Flugschüler von O. Bider das Pilotenbrevet No. 99. Wurde 1925 zum Kommandanten der Jagdflieger KP 13 befördert. Erreichte am 23.4.1926 einem Höhenrekord von 9800 m."
English translation:
"Captain Max Cartier
First aviation pioneer of Olten.
Born in Olten on 05/29/1896. Crashed in Thun on 01/24/1928 as a test pilot with M8 prototype of KW Thun. Acquired 1917 as a student pilot of O. Bider the pilot's license No. 99. 1925 he was promoted to commander of the fighter pilot company 13. Achieved an altitude record of 9800 meters on 04/23/1926."
