In 1920 Arjun Singh, an architect, is hired to oversee the redevelopment of a mansion in Palampur. Two previous architects have met their deaths on the project. Arjun is a religious man, but is in love with Lisa, a Christian. His family disapprove and Arjun eventually becomes an atheist in order to marry Lisa.
When Arjun and Lisa arrive at the mansion Lisa senses a malevolent presence. The caretaker, Balwant, knows that the mansion does not wish to be destroyed and will kill anyone that tries, including the owner, MK. He feigns ignorance.
Whilst Arjun is away in Delhi, Lisa experiences supernatural events and consults the local church priest. The priest senses evil too. He tells Balwant to warn Lisa, but Balwant doesn’t mention it to Lisa. Lisa becomes possessed by an evil spirit.
When Arjun returns he finds Lisa possessed and consults a previous owner of the mansion, Radhama. Radham tells Arjun that the evil spirit is that of Mohan Kant, a wounded mutineer in the Sepoy Mutiny. Kant was killed by a previous owner when he sought refuge in the mansion. Arjun asks the priest to exorcise Lisa, but the spirit is too strong. Arjun is forced to regain his faith and chants the Hanuman Chalisa. The chanting causes the spirit to leave Lisa’s body.
