The references to the various parts of the master plan for the Howard Peak Greenway Trails System can be confusing. The Howard Peak Greenway Trails System is the city approved and city funded plan to circle the metropolitan area of San Antonio, TX with connecting hike and bike trails along San Antonio area's major creek systems so the city parks will be interconnected. The Salado Creek, with some of its larger tributary creeks, are part of this greenway trail system.

This portion of the North Salado Creek Greenway is anchored at Blanco Road where the Phil Hardberger Park is located. This section of the overall greenway belt connects from Blanco Road northward to Huebner Road. There is another trailhead at Huebner Road that will be expanded onward as more funding is appropriated in coming years. For now, the northward reach of the greenway from Hardberger Park is completed and in use.

The parking lot at the end of Voelcker Lane connects paths into Hardberger Park and paths of the Salado Creek Greenway. In the middle of the Voelcker Lane parking lot a cluster of directional guidance signage, a group of toilet facilities, and a North Salado Creek Greenway You Are Here map for the southern reach from Blanco Road to West Avenue is located.

The northwest corner of the Voelcker Lane parking lot is where the northern reach of the North Salado Creek Greenway begins from this area and follows the Salado Creek to its intersection with Huebner Road. This flora and fauna informational board uses an aerial photograph of the park, the creek and surrounding neighborhoods as the background of the poster. over this background are photos of thirteen native plants and animals (3 plants, 10 animals) with captions of the common name and the latin name below each photo. The bottom border of the informational poster is divided into four blocked paragraphs discussing the general background facts about Salado Creek, a listing of likely local animals usually seen along this area of the creek, an explanation of the area biomes and their dominate trees and grasses, and a summary of the area's geological facts about faults and limestone formations.

This sign also incorporates a map of the trail showing a You Are Here indicator, rest areas, the trail's pathway, stream low water crossings, and bridges.
