The Stone County Courthouse was constructed in 1920. The three-story brick courthouse with concrete trim is in a classical revival style courthouse built in 1870 which had reached the deplorable state. The 1920s courthouse was designed by Joplin architect's Charles Sudhoelter & Co. It was constructed by Pauley Construction Company from Springfield for $47,600. The courthouse measures 65' x 70' and is 40 foot tall.

The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
