George Kastrioti (1403-1468) is the national hero of Albany. Born in a noble family, as a young has been given as hostage of Turkish sultan and, as a courageous soldier, he obtained the title of Iskander Bey (Prince Alexander), transferred in english Skanderbeg. Later, he joins the sultan's enemies, in order to free his homeland. He won the Ottomans, but his dead stopped the creation of an unitary state.
Central point of the square, the statue 11 m high was dedicated in the 500 anniversary of the death of the Albanian national hero.

Identity of Horse: The horse of Skanderbeg was white and of a well chosen breed. After the death of Scanderbeg he refused to be ridden by somebody else and after a short period died.
