Fremantle Traffic Bridge is 222.9 metres long and 14.23 metres wide. The timber piles, which are predominately jarrah are encased in concrete,the bridge has three navigation aches , two 16m wide and the third 12m.
The first bridge at this location was convict built in 1866 , but was found to be unsafe in the 1890's and a new low level temporary bridge was constructed , however this bridge only lasted a few years and the original bridge was renovated and widened, Work on the present bridge commenced in May 1937 and was completed in December 1939, the orignal bridge was later demolished in 1947.
