EN: The covered wooden bridge over the river Aare is situated between the old town and the train station. It is one of the landmarks of Olten and is still an important pedestrian connection between the neighborhoods on either side of the river Aare.

The river crossing in Olten was already used in Roman times and was then protected by a fort. A bridge was first mentioned in documents in 1295. This was destroyed several times over the centuries by war, fire or flood, the last time in 1798 by the Bernese troops who wanted thereby stop the advance of the French troops. The well-known bridge builder Blasius Baltenschwiler created then a temporary bridge that was replaced by the current one in 1803.

The 200-years old bridge has a length of 75 meters and stands on three wooden pillar structures.

DE: Die gedeckte Holzbrücke über die Aare liegt zwischen der Altstadt und dem Bahnhof. Sie ist eines der Wahrzeichen von Olten und ist auch heute noch eine wichtige Fussgängerverbindung zwischen den Stadtteilen beidseits der Aare.

Der Flussübergang bei Olten wurde schon zur Römerzeit genutzt und war damals mit einem Kastell geschützt. Eine Brücke ist erstmals 1295 urkundlich erwähnt. Diese wurde im Laufe der Jahrhunderte immer wieder durch Kriege, Feuer oder Hochwasser zerstört, das letzte Mal 1798 durch die Berner Truppen, die dadurch den Vormarsch der französischen Truppen stoppen wollten. Der bekannte Brückenbauer Blasius Baltenschwiler erstellte danach eine Notbrücke, die 1803 durch die noch heute bestehende ersetzt wurde.

Die 200-jährige Brücke hat eine Länge von 75 Metern und steht auf drei hölzernen Pfeilerkostruktionen.
