JOPLIN STOCK YARD, INC., Range Line Rd. to Florida Ave., and south of Turkey Creek along Newman Ave., are said to be the largest truck-in yards in the world. Established in 1931 by local capital to develop an additional farm market in Joplin, they now are a center from which truckers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas handle approximately $400,000 in live stock monthly. Auction sales are held every Friday and regular commission sales are held daily.  Missouri: A Guide to the "Show-Me" State, 1941, Joplin section, pg. 240

The stock yards are no longer located in Joplin. The land previously occupied by the stockyard is being converted to other uses. There is a new stockyard opened in 1995 called the Joplin Regional Stockyards and it is located out of the city at N 37° 5.050"  W94° 14.515"
