As described by the CGS back in 1938 (although already monumented 3 years earlier, in 1935):
"IN GIDDINGS.
AT GIDDINGS, LEE COUNTY, AT THE COUNTY JAIL, IN THE WEST CONCRETE WALL, 5 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF A DOOR, AND 5 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED F 311 1935 AND SET VERTICALLY."
The 1938 description and associated reference points (i.e. distances/directions) are still great references for locating this station; just one correction might be in order:
* The "COUNTY JAIL" reference for the building in question is no longer valid; this old stand-alone structure now serves as the Lee County Office of Emergency Management (and its formal address is 424 South Main Street).
Likewise, the station's associated NGS Data Sheet's posted coordinates seem to be a little off, at least at the time of this waymark's posting. Its most recent associated NGS Data Sheet reports it as "N 30 10 47.2 W 096 56 16.6" (i.e. "N 30 10.787 W 096 56.277"), which points to a location on the edge of Main Street about 20 ft northwest of the BM in question. The actual coordinates -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages -- are "N 30° 10.785 W 96° 56.274".
The station was recovered in "fair" (not great) condition: all markings are still quite legible but the disk itself has been painted over; see posted waymark's gallery images for BM close-up and setting details.
