As described by the National Geodetic Survey in 1973 (although already monumented by the CGS back in 1954):
"IN GALVESTON.
AT GALVESTON, AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE JUNCTION OF THE STRAND AND 17TH STREET NORTH, SET VERTICALLY IN THE SOUTH FACE OF THE U.S. CUSTOMHOUSE BUILDING, 0.6 FOOT WEST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING, ABOUT 2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE STREETS, AND 1.5 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND."
The 1973 description and associated reference points (i.e. distances/directions) are still great references for locating this station. However, its associated NGS Data Sheet's posted coordinates are about 28 ft off from my own observations: the NGS reports the station at "N 29 18 32.88 W 094 47 16.26" (i.e. N 29° 18.548 W 94° 47.271) which points to a location on the nearby grassy area, not the BM in question. More accurate coordinates -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages -- are actually: "N 29° 18.551 W 94° 47.275".
