The Farrell Block was built for Thomas E. Farrell, an early settler and community leader. The building was designed by C. C. Rittenhouse and is constructed of sandstone. In its early years the Adams County offices were located on its second floor prior to the courthouse being built in 1989. Half the building was destroyed in a fire in 1953.
