The Painter family went through some hard times, having had two children die under the age of 2, including baby Henry Lewis Painter, who was born on 17 December 1921 and died just 17 months later in 1923. His brother Ray Jackson Leroy lived just 10 months.
Only the youngest brother, William, born many years after these two brothers, lived to adulthood, but died at a mere 46 years old.
Both markers for Henry and Ray are simple crude-shaped concrete slabs with the inscriptions hand-etched onto their surfaces. They are next to each other in the cemetery. The inscription on this marker is:
Our darling HL Painter. Asleep in Jesus.
(As was so often the case back then, the N in Painter is backwards.)
