The Painter family went through some hard times, having had two children die under the age of 2, including baby Ray Jackson Leroy Painter, who was born on 4 October 1923 and died just 10 months later on 22 August 1924, after being sick for 11 days. His brother Henry lived just 17 months.
Only the youngest brother, William, born many years after these two brothers, lived to adulthood, but died at a mere 46 years old.
Both markers for Ray and Henry are simple crude-shaped concrete slabs with the inscriptions hand-etched onto their surfaces. They are next to each other in the cemetery. The inscription on this marker is:
Our darling RJL Painter. Asleep in Jesus. Age 10 mos.
