Located near Genoa, Wisconsin, Lock and Dam No. 8 is one of 29 that hold back water on the upper Mississippi River. This lock and dam has a very nice visitor area with parking, restrooms, observation deck, etc.

This lock and dam was completed in April, 1937. The dams form deeper water behind them to provide a minimum 9-foot channel in the river. The facility includes a lock, a dam with movable gates, 3 miles of dike, and two overflow spillways. The lock provides a vertical lift of 11 feet for boats ranging from canoes to commercial towboats.
