In 1869 whilst surveying the York - Williams Rd John Forrest (later Lord John Forrest ) marked the 68 mile spot with the jam wood post that still stands at this location.
A plaque installed in May 1970 reads;-
' A tribute to the memory of
LORD FORREST P.C. K.C. M.G.
a great and brave West Australian
who as surveyor John Forrest set this
jamwood 68 mile here in 1869
while surveying this York-Williams Rd
