Ellen Shannon was fatally burned March 21, 1870 by the explosion of a lamp filled with "R.E. Danforth's Non-Explosive Burning Fluid." Just goes to show that you can't believe everything that you read.

I was first made aware of this unusual grave stone as part of a multicache by fellow Geocacher, Facedances. There isn't much information on the internet about Ellen Shannon with the exception of the mentioning of this epitaph. Most that I have found agree that this is almost a good example of a consumer tip.

I included a link to a "Believe it or Not" page at "Find-A-Grave". You can see this grave listed there.
